Egoitarianism In Henry David Thoreau - 1662 Words
As one of the most respected and honored writers in all of American literature, millions have idolized Henry David Thoreau for his transcendental ideologies seen throughout many of his works, such as ââ¬Å"Waldenâ⬠. However is this respect deserved? Thoreau critics describe him as a very conceited, hypocritical, and egotistical individual who had little respect or empathy for humanity. On the other hand, those in praise of Thoreau describe his writing as unparalleled in terms of detailed descriptions, observations, and understanding and explanation of deeper meanings. Through analysis of his writings and the expert opinions of others, evidence exists that Henry David Thoreau was an egotistical and hypocritical person while also one of the mostâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Sandy Stott attempts to refute this in her essay ââ¬Å"A Reply to Pond Scumâ⬠when she states, ââ¬Å"Schulz ignores Thoreauââ¬â¢s repeated purpose, awakening his neighbors, as opposed to trumpeting his own lifeâ⬠(Stott). However, this statement is not accurate. Thoreau trumpets his own life by using himself as an example for how people should live their lives. In ââ¬Å"Waldenâ⬠, undoubtedly Thoreauââ¬â¢s most famous work, he uses examples from his experiences in the woods around Walden Pond as a reference for how people should live. Furthermore, Schultz does not ignore Thoreauââ¬â¢s purpose, she understands that Thoreau wants to awaken his fellow man to his transcendental ideologies. However, she opposes the way that Thoreau egotistically uses his life an the example of what he considers ideal, consequently placing himself on a pedestal above everyone else. Thoreau did not only suffer from unfounded superiority, he was also an extreme hypocrite who failed to live up to the expectations he set for the rest of man. For instance, one of Thoreauââ¬â¢s fundamental ideologies included his belief that in order to live a good life people needed live in nature, fr eeing themselves of everything except the necessities. This fundamental transcendental idea, one that was discussed extensively by Ralph Waldo Emerson and

The Hierarchy Of Race And Ethnic Groups - 1351 Words
When it comes down to it, different racial and ethnic groups are unequal in power. The basic reason is power. Power is derived from the vast majority, and it takes advantage of technology, weapons, property, or economic resources. The majority group vs the minority group goes way back to the early ages of America. The hierarchy of race started with the whites at the top of the pyramid, and because there is such a majority-minority relationship among us as a whole, there will always be potential conflict among the masses. There are a couple of differing theories on the role of education in our society. The Functionalist Theory focuses on the ways that universal education serves the needs of society. Functionalists like to view society in, well, ââ¬Å"functions.â⬠Functionalist think everything serves some type of purpose or function. ââ¬Å"They perceive five different functions to be: the economic role: teaching skills work, the selective role: choosing the most able people f or the most important jobs, the secondary socialization role: teaching norms and values, social control: teaching acceptance of rules and authority, and social cohesion: learning about other cultures.â⬠Functionalists tend to think we all have the same opportunities from the start of school, and that it is up to the individual on what he or she decides to with those opportunities. Thus, in a functionalist perspective, inequality is not an issue; a functionalist would say you have the same opportunities whereasShow MoreRelatedModels of American Ethnicities Essay640 Words à |à 3 PagesModels Of American Ethnic Relations: A Historical Perspective How does Fredrickson distinguish between race and ethnicity? Reaching for Your Goals Essay Example For Students
Reaching for Your Goals Essay It all started when I was in first grade. The sun was shining so bright that I could feel it hit my skin. We were all out at the playground on our recess and the school bell rang. Every time the school bell rang, we had to freeze and stand still. I always loved that time of the day because all you could see around you were the kids not moving, birds chirping from the trees, and the swing moving back and forth, making that squeaking sound every time it swung. Then after a minute, staff would blow the whistle so we could go back to class. As my friends and I walked back to class, we discussed about how lame and boring reading was going to be. We finally got to our classroom which only had a big red door and no windows on the sides which always freaked me out for some odd reason. As you walked in the door, straight ahead was the teachers desk, on the right side was just the chalk board with the alphabet all around it, and on the left side was some rounded looking tables. Those tables were are desks. I always sat next to two girls that I had crushes on. Oneââ¬â¢s name was Danielle and she had blonde hair, Audrey was the other which had brunette hair. But we sat closest to the door and book shelf. So class continued on and finally we got to read a book which I canââ¬â¢t quite remember the name of it but was a yellow and thin book. Our teacher stood up from her chair and began to read the first chapter for us out loud. As she read, we just followed along and listened. After reading six sentences from the book, she began to call on a student to read the next sentences. I knew then that I was going to get called on and read to the class. She called on three kids who all read as if they were smart but all had ugly shirts on that were colorful. Mrs. Sudou then called my name and I was just so nervous to read out loud. So I tried getting through the first sentence but the words werenââ¬â¢t coming out of my mouth so great. I mumbled at the words and read them as if they were questions and not a story. I just remember the class being so still and silent. When I got through the sentence, I looked up at my teacher and she had a look on her face as if I did something wrong. I then realized she was angry at me because I wasnââ¬â¢t reading like she expected me to. I remember her hands were placed on her hips with the book being at the tip of her toes, eyebrows were slanted downward and her upper lip was raised up. At that point in time, I was scared to continue on but she yelled at me and said to keep reading. It took me about five minutes to finish reading. My mind was just exhausted from just six sentences but I was relieved that I didnââ¬â¢t have to read anymore. As days went by, she would have me stay after school to help me improve my reading. She would still give me that same look every time I read after class. I could tell she was furious with me but I had no control of it. I was afraid of her every time she talked to me but for some reason I still passed the class with Aââ¬â¢s shown on my report card. I was actually glad I didnââ¬â¢t have to see her after passing her class. Two years goes by and I was taking summer school before I entered the fourth grade. It was a boring year so I decided Iââ¬â¢d continue on with learning at school. One day I remember sitting in class all by myself with just the teacher at her desk. I decided Iââ¬â¢d start reading books since I had to wait for class to start. I slowly improved my reading each day and my teacher acknowledged that about me. Then one day I had to wait for my mom to pick me up from school so I stayed after class and started to read some books. .ue28e29cfe49b20c7f34240c1a7d0e20f , .ue28e29cfe49b20c7f34240c1a7d0e20f .postImageUrl , .ue28e29cfe49b20c7f34240c1a7d0e20f .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ue28e29cfe49b20c7f34240c1a7d0e20f , .ue28e29cfe49b20c7f34240c1a7d0e20f:hover , .ue28e29cfe49b20c7f34240c1a7d0e20f:visited , .ue28e29cfe49b20c7f34240c1a7d0e20f:active { border:0!important; } .ue28e29cfe49b20c7f34240c1a7d0e20f .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ue28e29cfe49b20c7f34240c1a7d0e20f { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ue28e29cfe49b20c7f34240c1a7d0e20f:active , .ue28e29cfe49b20c7f34240c1a7d0e20f:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ue28e29cfe49b20c7f34240c1a7d0e20f .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ue28e29cfe49b20c7f34240c1a7d0e20f .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ue28e29cfe49b20c7f34240c1a7d0e20f .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ue28e29cfe49b20c7f34240c1a7d0e20f .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ue28e29cfe49b20c7f34240c1a7d0e20f:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ue28e29cfe49b20c7f34240c1a7d0e20f .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ue28e29cfe49b20c7f34240c1a7d0e20f .ue28e29cfe49b20c7f34240c1a7d0e20f-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ue28e29cfe49b20c7f34240c1a7d0e20f:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Women And Writing EssayI was reading so good that I started laughing out loud because of what I was reading and it felt good to understand what I was reading. Sop for Ms in Cs with Networks Essay Example
Sop for Ms in Cs with Networks Essay I am a working professional with B. Tech Degree in Electronics Communication Engineering from Dr. MGR University, Chennai, India. As an individual, I sincerely believe that getting clear on your dreams and goals would show the path to your purpose in life. This has been the motto behind my pursuit of excellence in all the chosen endeavours and has imparted me the impetus to go ahead in life. I, now, believe that only an intensive study and comprehensive research work in my field of interest would put me on right track to explore things from a different perspective and achieve my goals.Getting Started My deep inclination towards academics dates back to my years in school, where I excelled in mathematics and developed a strong interest towards computers and electronic gadgets. Standing among the best doers in the AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Examinations) and bagging scholarships kept the fire of determination burning in me. It gave a real boost to my confidence and persuaded me to take Electronics Communication Engineering as an under-graduate degree program in Dr.MGR University, which is well known for its exemplary Science Technology Department and motivating academic environment. During my engineering course, subjects like C Programming, Operating Systems, Computer Architecture Networks, Data Structures Algorithms, interested me the most. My ambition to pursue M. S. My hunger to discover more on the above-mentioned subjects is also a reason to go higher up the ladder in this stream. CS or IT is not just a subject but a tool whose application can be found in all aspects of life may it be Manufacturing, Agriculture or Service sectors.I would like to plan my career in CS/IT so that I could act as enabler for any industry vertical and explore the usage of the above tools in unexplored world. And my interest to learn new upcoming technologies motivates me to take higher studies in my field of interest. To add to it, riding on back of strong fundament als in C, C++, Oracle and SQL will enable me to learn new things in depth. I have a strong aptitude and an unquenchable thirst for research and design in this field.Keeping up an inquisitive and explorative attitude, I believe, leads to a constant learning process. I believe the MS program will add a new dimension to my career and give me the necessary exposure, maturity and wisdom to focus on one research area in my doctoral program. I believe it will give direction to my goal of a career as a research professional at an academic or commercial, research-oriented organization. This course will help me join the team of professionals, who excel in this and keep on innovating new gadgets, systems and tech using CS/IT.Projects undertaken ââ¬Å"HOTEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEMâ⬠- Using DBMS- FoxPro (implemented most of the available Menu-driven functions) File Handling using Java HTML, I implemented the online/offline menu system of a hotel having many branches under one head. The system could search, edit, delete, book, cancel and insert records/take orders of the customers checking in/out of any branch through one single head. Developed a new concept of using header files by placing manual header files and thus reducing the length of the coding. ATTENDANCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMâ⬠- Using RFID Card Reader and a PIC Microcontroller (PIC16F877) for authentication of a person. The data from the RFID reader is transmitted to a remote computer through a wireless RF Transmitter where a RF Reader which is connected to a computer determines the Authorization and Access Control rights. Vb Software is used to generate and analyze all user access information with the help of a central PC-based workstation. Why Computer Networks Fundamentally, I am a technical person with IT skills and knowledge of arious computer languages such as C, C++, HTML and JAVA. It was while I was serving my tenure with EMERSON CUMING in Belgium, I realised that the speed of the network there was muc h higher than that we had at our office in India. The business had many computers, and so I started looking for chances that could benefit from networking them. A local area network (LAN) was connected to the companys computers, allowing them to share and exchange a variety of information. While one computer can be useful on its own, several networked computers can be much more useful.Since then, the office still practices the conventional ways which I introduced once. File sharing, printer sharing, communication and collaboration, organization, remote access, data protection were in a state like never before and I was started being taken more as a System Analyst than an Electronics Engineer for the company. In addition to the OS Management, I developed a billing system for the dues that is to be paid by the buyer of stiller ; auto truck and got involved in developing an accounting software from Voucher Generation, Profit ; Loss to Balance Sheet. For this, I developed a payroll syste m in FoxPro 2. 0 which included the all day Queries like opening the data file, editing the records, creating structures, indexing, sorting, and maintaining Database Integrity ; Security, generation of reports and Backup ; Restoration, which proved very beneficiary for the company. Recently, under the direction of Sr. Oracle DBA, I have provided Oracle database management and administration on production, testing and development on Linux. This involved me into the installation, configuration and up-gradation of Oracle database 9i Server. I have developed scripts to monitor instances locks, long running queries, listener, and free space. Clone/Refresh of Production databases to Testing and training environments and Backup of Database through RMAN were also performed and regularly managed. Therefore, the MS-CS program will augment my detailed knowledge of the current trends and technologies in IT to such a great extent that I believe it will be the best way to advance my career. With a comprehensive and well-planned set of academic requirements, the MS-CS curriculum offers an extensive selection of courses that cover all important aspects of Computer Networks: Systems Analysis and Development, Databases, Data Communications and Networks, Web Application Development, IT Security, and Project Management. In addition, the best advantage of the program is the Network experience as part of the curriculum, which will provide many real-world experiences to help me discover my future career opportunities.
